U.S. Army 3 on 3 Summer Hoops
from Richmond's Sports Backers
Basketball enthusiasts, get ready for the Sports Backers newest event, the U.S. Army 3 on 3 Summer Hoops. This 3 on 3 basketball tournament will match players of varying ages, genders, and skill levels against each other at the Dominion campus in the Innsbrook office park on July 26 and 27, 2008.
The U.S. Army 3 on 3 Summer Hoops provides great competition on the courts, and many activities for participants and spectators alike. "We are basically creating a basketball festival for the whole community to enjoy," says Megan Silva, Tournament Director for the inaugural event. "In addition to nonstop basketball on every court, we'll have shooting and skills contests and a Center Court to highlight top-notch competition. There will also be fun and interactive games and other activities for the kids. This will be something you won't want to miss."
The U.S. Army and Sports Backers are proud to partner together to create this annual event. "We recognize the Sports Backers' success in creating dynamic events that appeal broadly across the community," says Major Christopher Lange of U.S. Army Recruiting. "We think this event will prove very popular and are eager to work with them to grow it to its full potential."
Competitors will be broken up into two skill level divisions (standard and elite) with male, female and co-ed teams in each division. There will be youth divisions for grades 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, and 9-12 and adult brackets for participants age 18 years old and up. Brackets will be formed within each division that will match teams of similar skill levels to provide the best competition possible.
The CarMax contest court gives everyone a chance to get in on the action. Participants and spectators will have the chance to win prizes while showing off their best basketball skills in the Free Throw and 3-Point Shooting Contests or the Skills Competition. Some of the best will be selected to showcase their talents on the arena court throughout the weekend.
To ensure that the U.S. Army 3 on 3 Summer Hoops is a family friendly event, good sportsmanship will be strictly enforced. Megan Silva notes, "This event is modeled after Hoopfest in Spokane, Washington, which is the biggest 3 on 3 basketball tournament in the world. They really stress sportsmanship as their top priority. As a result, they have been successful in creating a fun and safe atmosphere that allows for people to enjoy a weekend full of basketball. That is something we are trying to emulate."
Whether you want to play, volunteer, or just watch your friends or family compete, the U.S. Army 3 on 3 Summer Hoops is the place to do it. Registration is now open. To register or find out more information, visit the Sports Backers Summer Hoops page.
